Meta Settlement Toolkit + Messaging

< See Meta Settlement Statement Details

The Meta settlement creates a major opportunity to turn accountability into meaningful investment in young people. Fund IRL has developed practical tools, messaging, and shareable resources to help partners and advocates amplify the moment, engage their networks, and help ensure funds intended to address harms to young people support youth well-being.

Use these core messages in posts, newsletters, outreach, and conversations:

  • Money recovered because young people were harmed should make a meaningful difference in young people’s lives.
  • Settlement funds intended to address youth harms can support mental health, afterschool and summer programs, mentoring, sports, arts, outdoor experiences and other opportunities that help young people connect, belong and thrive.
  • Young people, families and community organizations should have a meaningful voice in how youth-focused investments are shaped.
  • Clear guardrails, transparency and accountability are essential to making sure resources reach young people and strengthen youth well-being.

Our responsibility doesn’t end with holding social media companies accountable. We also have to think carefully about what repair looks like for young people. As settlement resources become available, I believe funds intended to address harms to young people should be invested in their well-being.

That means supporting mental health, afterschool and summer programs, mentoring, sports, arts and other opportunities that help young people build strong relationships and thrive in real life. It also means listening to young people and families as decisions are made, and making sure there is transparency and accountability around where the money goes.

This is an important opportunity to get the next step right. Learn more about Fund IRL’s guidance: https://fundirl.org/home/fundirl-statement-on-meta-lawsuit-settlement/.

If money is being recovered because young people were harmed, young people should benefit from what comes next. That could mean more access to mental health support, afterschool and summer programs, mentors, sports, arts, outdoor experiences and safe places to connect in real life.

Parents and young people know what support looks like day to day. Their voices should be part of the decisions being made now.

Speak up. Share this with other families. Help keep young people at the center. Learn more about what the Meta Settlement means for youth wellbeing and programming in our country: https://fundirl.org/home/fundirl-statement-on-meta-lawsuit-settlement/.
